Gridnick, 2018
Centerpiece, various dimensions, Georgian wired glass
Gridnick is both a visual pun and the result of an ongoing exploration of industrial materials repurposed for domestic use. Conceived in Jesolo, Marco’s hometown, the experiment took place in a small, family-owned glazing workshop near his parents’ home. The project employs Georgian wired glass—a type of fire-resistant glass with a wire mesh embedded during production—traditionally valued for its strength and safety. Curious to see how this tough material could be shaped over a mould at high temperature without shattering, Marco discovered, to his surprise, that the glass could indeed be transformed, resulting in a simple yet intriguing object that playfully merges control and chance, craft and experiment.
